Jessica and Harland’s love story began in high school at the bus stop. It was Jessica’s first week of school when she turned the corner and saw him standing there. Too nervous to speak at first, she patiently waited for the perfect moment.

Finally, she saw the name written on the sleeve of his marching band jacket and asked, “What instrument is a Harland?” He smiled and replied, “I’m a Harland.” That moment was the beginning of something truly special.

The two dated throughout high school and on and off in college before reconnecting in 2012. At Harland’s Navy bootcamp graduation, he proposed, and four months later, they were married.

Overcoming Challenges Together

Jessica and Harland have been through more than most couples could imagine. After three years of medical treatments for their daughter’s heart defect came to an end, 2020 was supposed to be their year. But then the pandemic hit, and shortly after, their young son was diagnosed with cancer. The weight of it all was overwhelming.

On the day of their session, Jessica arrived early for a little pampering with my professional glam squad. She was treated to a full hair and makeup transformation, which left her feeling confident and glowing. When Harland arrived and saw Jessica for the first time, his jaw dropped. He couldn’t stop smiling, and his eyes were locked on her every time she moved.

Jessica told me that any nerves she had quickly disappeared when she saw the way Harland looked at her. His compliments—calling her “gorgeous” and “stunning”—added to her comfort and confidence in front of the camera. Watching them together, I could see the deep love and connection they shared.

Harland, who was initially hesitant about the session (as many men are), ended up loving the experience. Not only is he now anxiously awaiting the final photos, but he’s also bragging to his friends about the new way he was able to see Jessica.

For Jessica, the experience reminded her that Harland values her for so much more than being a wife and mother. “He’s still proud of me, even though we’ve been together since we were 15,” she shared. That level of love, admiration, and pride is what makes their bond so special—and what made their session so meaningful.
